About
About Bhatpara
Bhatpara is a city and a municipality of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).
Earlier known as Bhattapalli (ভট্টপল্লী Bhoṭṭopollī), Bhatpara is known for its rich tradition of Sanskrit learning, and was one of Bengal's major Sanskrit-learning centre. Many Bengali pundits came from Bhatpara. Besides Sanskrit learning, Bhatpara is also known for its British-era jute industry, with legacy jute mills at Kankinara (কাঁকিনাড়া Kānkināṛā), which is not to be confused with the Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.
