How to choose
How to choose a place to stay
The questions that decide whether a stay works, answered plainly, with the places that meet each one in their operators’ own words.
Aparthotel or hotel?
An aparthotel gives you an apartment — usually with a kitchen and more room — with a hotel's check-in, cleaning and support.
Hotels with free parking
"Parking" on a hotel page can mean free spaces on site, a paid garage next door, or a public car park nearby.
Accessible places to stay
Accessible rooms differ more than the word suggests: step-free access, a roll-in shower, grab rails, a lowered bed or a hearing loop are separate features.
Pet-friendly places to stay
A pet-friendly policy usually comes with conditions: a nightly fee, a size or number limit, or only some rooms.
Places to stay for families
For families the room matters more than the lobby: space for everyone to sleep, somewhere to keep and prepare food, and a pool or play area if there is one.
Long stays and workcations
For a stay of weeks rather than nights, what you need changes: a kitchen, a desk, a washing machine, and cleaning that does not wake you every morning.
Hotels with a gym or spa
"Fitness" can mean a full gym, two machines in a basement, or a pass to a gym down the road.
