About
About Damietta
Damietta is a port city which serves as the capital city of the Damietta Governorate in Egypt. It is located at the Damietta branch, an eastern distributary of the Nile Delta, 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from the Mediterranean Sea, and about 200 kilometres (120 mi) north of Cairo.
A city overlooking the Mediterranean. It is, along with its twin town Ras-El-Barr (راس البر) a popular summer destination for Egyptians from nearby governantes. It is famous for domyati cheese, furniture and beaches, as well as a clothing industry which is in decline. Perhaps it is most famous, though, for being where one of the Nile's two branches in lower Egypt meets the Mediterranean. There are 5 hour slow trains from Cairo, and quicker coaches from many Egyptian cities. It is also easily accessible by road.
