About Ilesa

Ilesa or Ilesha is a historic city located in Osun State, southwest Nigeria; it is also the name of the capital of a historic state-kingdom (also known as Ijesha) centred around that town as the capital. The state is ruled by a monarch bearing the title of His Imperial Majesty, the Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland.

Ilesa was founded in 12th century by Owaluse, a grandson of Ajibokun Ajaka Owa Obokun Onida Arara, a descendant of Oduduwa, the progenitor of the Yoruba race. Ilesa is the largest town and the capital of Ijesha (Ijesa) kingdom in Osun State. The most favorable period for hot-weather and outdoor leisure activities in Ilesa is from mid-November to early February.
