About Jieyang

Jieyang (simplified Chinese: 揭阳; traditional Chinese: 揭陽; pinyin: Jiēyáng; Chaozhou dialect: gig4 iên5; Jieyang dialect: gêg4 ion5) is a prefecture-level city in eastern Guangdong Province (Yuedong), People's Republic of China, part of the Chaoshan region. People in Jieyang speak Chaoshan Min distinct from neighbouring Yue speakers.

Jieyang is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province. It is located in the eastern part of Guangdong Province, adjacent to Shantou, Shanwei, Meizhou and other places. Jieyang has a long history and profound cultural heritage, and has gone through multiple stages of development. The history of Jieyang can be traced back to the Qin Dynasty, when it belonged to the jurisdiction of Nanhai County. In the Tang Dynasty, Jieyang established "Jieyang County", which was an important administrative district.

Getting around

Jieyang is more suitable for friends who travel by car. Even if you don't drive, it's not troublesome to take the high-speed rail. The attractions are concentrated in the old city area around Jinxianmen, which can be reached on foot. Jieyang's streets are narrow, so it is recommended to use shared bicycles or shared electric vehicles, which are cheaper and free. Please pay attention to safety when using them. Booking Didi on WeChat is the fastest and easiest way. You can also choose to take the bus, but the frequency may be less, so you need to know it in advance.
