About Maricá

Maricá is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. It is located in the Greater Niterói region (or Metropolitan East), bordering Itaboraí, São Gonçalo, Rio Bonito, Niterói, Saquarema and Tanguá.

Maricá is the last municipality on the sea coast of the metropolitan agglomeration of Rio de Janeiro to the east. It has many areas of environmental protection within its territory, as well as various lagoons and a single and very long strip of sand that stretches approximately 35 km along the coast of Maricá - almost the entire coast of the municipality.
