There are two major roads leading to San Pedro from Abidjan. The more direct one is the coastal road, going through Sassandra. This road is in a bad state and often closes altogether during the rains. Public transport takes about 10 hours during the dry season. Sassandra et San Pedro is the worst section and takes about 3 hours. The quickest route passes through Gagnoa and Soubré and takes about 8 hours.
Getting around
Shared taxis go between the city centre and the seaside maquis area for 200 CFA per passenger. Foreigners will be told the price is 1000 but tell the driver that you know the local rate is 200.
