About

About Hailsham

Hailsham is a town, a civil parish and the administrative centre of the Wealden district of East Sussex, England. It is mentioned in Domesday Book, where it is called Hamelesham in one part, yet mentioned in another part of the same book as ‘’’Tilux’’’, the land of Ricard de Tunbrige.

The largest of the five towns of the Wealden district of East Sussex, Hailsham is a small but growing town which serves as the local hub for some of the more rural parts of the county. Historically, Hailsham was an agricultural centre, and a rope manufacturing town. It produced the hangman's rope for use in Britain and its colonies.
