About Oyo
Oyo is a city in Oyo State, Nigeria. It was founded as the capital of the remnant of the historic Oyo empire in the 1830s, and is known to its people as 'New Oyo' (Ọ̀yọ́ Àtìbà) to distinguish it from the former capital to the north, 'Old Oyo' (Ọ̀yọ́-Ilé), which had been deserted as a result of the Yoruba Civil Wars.

Getting around
Oyo is a relatively compact town, and visitors can use taxis, motorcycles, tricycles (kek) and private vehicles to move around. During the World Sango Festival, some roads and areas around festival venues may become busier than usual. Motorcycle taxis, locally known as okada, are commonly used for short journeys within Oyo. They can be useful for reaching places that are difficult to access by larger vehicles. Visitors should agree on the fare before starting the journey and use caution, particularly during busy festival periods.
